We all knew deep down that Rafa winning Madrid was unlikely, but this was the exit he needed and deserved.
After watching his farewell speech, I got curious. How did Rafa fare in the Madrid Masters over his career?
Well, the numbers are freakishly mind-blowing.
First, Rafa has 5x Madrid titles under his belt. The MOST EVER. He also ends his run in Madrid with an 83% winning percentage - pure domination.
You know what’s even crazier? Out of all the key clay court tournaments, Madrid is where he won the LEAST.
.. WTF?
Check out Rafa’s ridiculous title runs on clay over his career:
French Open - 97% winning percentage and x14 🏆 titles
Monte-Carlo Masters - 92% winning percentage and x11 🏆 titles
Madrid Masters - 83% winning percentage and x5 🏆 titles
Rome Masters - 90% winning percentage and x10 🏆 titles
If we’re following the numbers, the Spanish GOAT may have one final run coming soon. And I’m here for it.
“MINDTHEGAME” PODCAST, BUT FOR TENNIS
Gif by snl on Giphy
Make tennis fun again!
Alexander Bublik is known to surprise us from time to time. He’ll hit you with an underhand serve, replace himself with a ball kid, and tell us that he finds tennis boring.
Check out his recent interview:
Listen, Alex. I love the game.
The rallies, the finesse, the mental warfare - it’s a chess match on steroids. But sometimes you’re right.. it can be a snooze fest.
Here’s my solution.. a podcast. And I’m not kidding.
The NBA has “MindTheGame” with Lebron James and JJ Reddick. These guys break down the game, talk strategy, and drop baller anecdotes.
In other words, this podcast is pure gold. Go take a listen, seriously.
Imagine the same thing for tennis - Roger Federer blessing us with his tennis IQ. Serena Williams unleashing the secrets behind her killer serve. Djokovic schooling us on his mental fortress.
This isn’t just about entertainment. It’s about growing the sport.
These legends can drop knowledge bombs about tactics, the impact of different surfaces, and the pressures of competing in front of 40,000 roaring fans at a Grand Slam.
Suddenly, watching a baseline slugfest becomes fascinating. You see the strategy, the mind games, and the million little decisions that build a champion.
Maybe they should call it “Match Point.” Get some sponsors on board, donate a portion to youth tennis programs - boom! You’ve got a recipe for more fans, more sponsorships, and a brighter future for the sport.
What do you think, Alex?
RUBLEV IS WINNING AGAIN
Rublev after beating Carlos Alcaraz in Madrid
“Before this event you don’t have a win in 6 weeks. You came here and everything changed.. how much of a relief is it to know you still got it?”
Andrey: “I don’t know man. I don’t know what to say.. maybe this week is a relief but… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

Tennis can be a crazy roller coaster ride. Andrey acknowledges this.
ANDDD NEWWW!!!
Madrid’s new winner will be..?
The stars are falling one by one in Madrid.
In the last 48hrs, the tournament lost their main attractions.
Rafa lost a close match up to Jiri Lehecka.. although we did not expect him to make it far. Carlos lost a tough 3-setter to Andrey Rublev. And Jannik Sinner withdrew due to a hip injury before even stepping on the court.
That means a new winner will be crowned in Madrid, and this year and I’m rolling with the underdog, Jiri Lehecka.
He’s a streaky type of player and when he’s hot, you get out of his way.
And guess what.. Lehy is streaking right now.
