Rublev Drama in Dubai
Tensions run high when you are Andrey Rublev. He wears his emotions on his sleeves, and sometimes, it just gets the best of ya.
Rublev was defaulted by the umpire at 6-5 in the 3rd set of his semi-final match against childhood friend, Alex Bublik. According to the officials, Rublev verbally abused a line judge in his native Russian tongue.
What'd this cost him? The match, a shot at the Dubai title, ranking points, and $36,400.
I hope that in the future, the ATP will take a closer look at this rule and make changes to it, so that an official can't force a match outcome without having clear evidence and not letting the player have a video review.
@Andrey - If you're reading this.. never change! Keep tennis exciting to watch. You're one of the best to watch on the tour.
Rising Stars at Indian Wells
Who doesn't love an underdog story? We can keep praising old-man Djokovic or get pumped for some young guns jumping out of the qualifiers. I'm keeping my eyes on #NextGenATP star JC Shang.
The 19yr old has put up an impressive campaign so far, defeating Botic van de Zandschulp and Frances Tiafoe before losing to Rublev at the Hong Kong ATP 250. He battled past the crafty Yoshihito Nishioka in qualifiers out here in the desert, and is scheduled to take on the red hot Aussie, Jordan Thompson in the first round.
He'll have to deal with the likes of Alex Bublik and Alex de Minaur if he gets through, who are extremely tough competitors in their own right. But if there's a qualifier that'll rattle the cage this tournament, I'm placing my $$ on JC Shang.
Join the Carota Boys bandwagon
Dear Jannik Sinner & Carota Boys - This is my formal application to join the Carota Boys.
I know, I know. I was just talking about underdogs, but if there's anyone I would HATE to face in a tournament, it is Jannik Sinner. He's ROLLING through the competition this year won back-to-back tournaments at the Aussie Open and Rotterdam Open.
My prediction: Sinner BLASTS through the field in straight sets and secures the title with an epic win over the Djoker.
